Every year, in Hollywood, dozens of new actors and actresses make their debut in the great world of American cinema. This is the case of the young Anya Taylor-Joy, born in 1996 in the United States with Anglo-Argentine origins. At the age of 16 she embarked on a modeling career, which led her to build an acting career. She made her big screen debut in 2015 thanks to The VVitch, a sensational work directed by Robert Eggers, who immediately believed in the adaptable abilities of Anya, enhancing them and making her stand out in a great horror movie. The young actress subsequently took part in Morgan, by Luke Scott, and Barry, a Netflix production directed by Vikram Gandhi, and then she returned in theaters in 2017 with Split, by the beloved director M. Night Shyamalan. This movie, a great box office and critically acclaimed,  consolidated the good feelings that have grown around the actress in the previous two years, making her one of the most interesting and appreciated young promises in the panorama. She ended the year with a leading role in the BBC miniseries The Miniaturist, receiving praise for her remarkable acting confidence, and with two very successful parts in Thoroughbreds and The Secret of Marrowbone. Her next projects are Glass, the Split sequel, and The New Mutants, an horror spin-off of the X-Men saga.

Actors and actresses are undoubtedly among the main pillars of film art. This profession reaches the highest level when a director knows how to get the best from the skills of his/her actor or his/her actress. Anya Taylor-Joy, a predestinated as previously mentioned, immediately found those who managed her in pulling out of her soul that light that would allow her to shine immediately and to find the right path for her career. Robert Eggers, with The VVitch, understood how to enhance the look and physicality of Anya, a 18 years old actress already with the charisma of an established star able to face an independent and complex “dark” horror movie. Anya has the peculiar talent of being able to communicate her emotions at a glance, thanks to two big and magnetic eyes as rarely seen on the screens, and this is one of those rare characteristics that trace a positive line of destiny in the life of a unique actress like her.

Physically and aptly suited to play roles that are very different from each other, Anya Taylor-Joy has dedicated herself, during her growing career, mainly in horror and thriller genres but has shown a great maturity also dealing with black comedy and with dramatic performance.
