Sean Penn è in trattative per entrare nel cast di The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty, già in fase di riprese a New York, ritorno alla regia di Ben Stiller dopo Tropic Thunder (2008) e remake dell'omonimo film del 1947, da noi Sogni proibiti.

Penn (This Must Be The Place, The Gangster Squad) affiancherebbe Kristen Wiig (Le amiche della sposa) Adam Scott (Molto incinta) Patton Oswalt (Young Adult, Cercasi amore per la fine del mondo) Shirley MacLaine (Bernie) e lo stesso Stiller, che vedremo come attore anche in Neighborhood Watch e in While We're Young di Noah Baumbach, attualmente in postproduzione.
