L’Academy ha ufficializzato i nomi che nella notte degli Oscar del 24 febbraio si contenderanno l’ambita statuetta. Roma di Alfonso Cuaròn domina con 10 candidature, tra cui quelle per le due attrici. Ottimi risultati anche per BlackKklansman e The Favourite, anch’esso candidato a 10 Oscar. Molte sorprese nella categoria del miglior regista, dove spiccano le esclusioni di Peter Farrelly e Bradley Cooper. Black Panther diventa il primo film su un supereroe a essere candidato. Finalmente Spike Lee ottiene la prima nomination come regista della sua carriera, mentre nonostante le perplessità della critica internazionale Bohemian Rhapsody conferma il trionfo ai Golden Globe 2019 con diverse candidature tra cui quella per il miglior film e quella per Rami Malek attore protagonista.
