Il RIFF si è caratterizzato da subito per la forte vocazione internazionale presentando al pubblico romano opere provenienti da più di quaranta Paesi, con anteprime nazionali europee e mondiali.

Con il sostegno dell'Assessorato alle Politiche Culturali del Comune di Roma, il contributo del Ministero dei Beni Culturali – DGC e il contributo dell'Assessorato alla Cultura, Spettacolo, Sport e Turismo della Regione Lazio, il Roma Independent Film Festival, registra ogni anno crescenti apprezzamenti e si sta affermando come un'importante appuntamento per il cinema indipendente. Un'occasione per filmakers di tutto il mondo per presentare opere originali in assoluta anteprima. Le opere selezionate per il concorso saranno oltre 80 (nell'edizione 2006 sono state inviate al festival più di mille tra pellicole, tapes e DVD, provenienti da 70 paesi).

Feature Films  (lungometraggi);

New Frontiers (opera prima)

Documentary Films (documentari a tema libero  e sui diritti umani);

Short Films (cortometraggi);

Digital Video (digitale);

International Student Films (per studenti delle scuole di cinema);

Animation  (animazione);

Music Short (con le musiche di Ennio Morricone, Goblin e Keith Emerson)

Screenplays & Subject (sceneggiature & soggetti);

Il Festival presta una particolare attenzione al mondo della distribuzione e della produzione ospitando all'interno di "CASA RIFF", l'ormai tradizionale appuntamento festivaliero, le principali realtà del settore.

Premi speciali sono stati attribuiti, nel corso delle precedenti edizioni a Hervey Keitel, Amos Gitai , Pete Travis, Valeria Golino, Gabriele Muccino, Paolo Sorrentino , Sara Johnsen e tanti altri.

Il programma del RIFF '07 sarà arricchito da retrospettive e seminari concernenti vari aspetti della cinematografia. Particolare attenzione per le opere prime italiane che come già avvenuto lo scorso anno saranno presentate in una sezione fuori concorso. Al termine del Festival verranno assegnati i RIFF Awards per un valore di oltre 50.000 Euro, il Premio Luce che consentirà al cortometraggio vincitore la distribuzione in sala ed il premio "New Vision" assegnato al miglior regista emergente.

Altra novità: il sito si ripresenta con una nuova immagine ed un database di oltre 2000 film, con informazioni dettagliate, schede tecniche e recapiti delle produzioni!.  L'iscrizione dei nuovi film può essere fatta compilando la scheda elettronica!!!

 RIFF Awards 2007: green light to applications

15 December is the deadline to apply to the 6th edition

The call for applications and regulations to the Roma Independent Film Festival

are now available online

Until 15 December 2006 it will be possible to submit film works in order to participate in the 6th edition of  the RIFF (Roma Independent Film Festival), which will take place in Rome from 16 through 23 March 2007.  All the information to apply, as well as the Regulations, are published online on the website www.riff.it.

RIFF has always been characterised by its strong international orientation, and has been presenting the Roman audience with films coming from over 40 countries, including national, European and world premieres.

The event is supported by Rome 's Municipal Department of Cultural Policies, with the contribution of the Ministry of Cultural Heritage – DGC and of the Department for Culture, Entertainment, Sport and Tourism for the Lazio Region. The Roma Independent Film Festival is increasingly appraised, year after year, and is becoming known as one of independent cinema appointments not-to-miss, as well as an opportunity for worldwide film-makers to show their original works for the very first time. More than 60 films will be selected for the competition (in the 2006 edition the festival received over 1,000 films, VHS and DVDs from more than  70 countries).

The competition is divided into the following sections:

Feature Films;

New Frontiers (first films);

Documentary Films (on any topic, with special regard to human rights);

Short Films;

Digital Video;

International Student Films (for worldwide students of film schools);

Animation;

Music Short (based on the music by Ennio Morricone, Goblin and Keith Emerson);

Screenplays & Subjects.

The Festival is also particularly focussed on production and distribution, hosted the main industry representatives at the CASA RIFF, which has now become one of the traditional meeting points during the event.

Throughout the past editions, special prizes have been awarded to Hervey Keitel, Amos Gitai , Pete Travis, Valeria Golino, Gabriele Muccino, Paolo Sorrentino , Sara Johnsen and many more.

In 2007 RIFF will be further supplemented with a number of film retrospectives and seminars. Special care will be paid to Italian first works which, like last year, will be screened within a special out-of-competition section. The RIFF Awards, given at the end of the festival, will have an overall value exceeding 50,000 Euros; the Luce Award will offer to the winning short the opportunity to have theatre distribution and the 'New Vision' award will be granted to the most talented emerging director.

And more to come: the website has been totally restyled and offers a database made up of over 2,000 films, including detailed information, technical specifications and contact details of the productions! New films may be submitted by filling in the electronic form!!!
