Mentre critici musicali, esperti, appassionati dell'uno o dell'altro mostro sacro tirato in ballo continuano a dividersi violentemente tra l'amore e l'odio nei confronti di LULU (completamente ascoltabile in streaming), il concept-album che vede la collaborazione tra Lou Reed e i Metallica sulla base dei testi teatrali di Frank Wedekind, di cui avevamo parlato, gli artefici dell'opera hanno chiamato nientemeno che Darren Aronofsky (recentemente impegnato anche in quattro video anti-meth) a dirigere il primo videoclip estratto dal lotto delle canzoni registrate per il progetto.

Da loureed.it leggiamo il commento del cineasta al suo coinvolgimento per il video di The View: “La prima volta che ho ascoltato The View ero incantato” ha detto Aronofsky. “Non avevo mai sentito nulla di simile. Metà era la quintessenza di Lou. L’altra metà era dei Metallica. Era un matrimonio che superficialmente non sembrava avere molto senso, ma la fusione ha cambiato il modo in cui io pensavo entrambi gli artisti e l’ha trasformato in qualcosa di completamente nuovo e fresco. Non riuscivo a smettere di ascoltarla. Il testo spiazzante di Lou, e gli assoli incredibili della band. E’ così originale, ed è per questo che ho voluto lavorare su questo“.

Per i fan del d.o.p. Matthew Libatique (nella foto con Reed e Aronofsky), il video è l'occasione per vederlo nuovamente adottare i forti contrasti e le accese saturazioni che ne hanno caratterizzato l'inconfondibile tocco nella prima parte della carriera, soprattutto con Spike Lee e Joel Schumacher.
Per i reediani invece, Aronofsky riesce forse a cogliere appieno il senso nascosto dell'operazione intera catturando quel sardonico e spacconesco applauso di "approvazione" ai Metallica che proprio Lou concede al termine della registrazione del brano…
