Svelati i 16 titoli in concorso del 61° Festival internazionale del cinema di Berlino (10-20 febbraio) sui 22 della sezione Competition. In gara nessun titolo italiano.

Vedremo finalmente A Torinói Ló, l'ultima fatica del maestro Béla Tarr, The Forgiveness Of Blood, secondo lungometraggio di Joshua Marston (l'interessante Maria Full of Grace del 2004), Unknown, nuovo film di Jaume Collet-Serra (Orphan), il coreano Come Rain Come Shine di Lee Yoon-ki (Love Talk, This Charming Girl) e diversi film d'esordio, come El premio di Paula Markovitch e Margin Call di JC Chandor (che per il suo debutto, in anteprima USA al Sundance, è riuscito a ottenere un cast importante: Kevin Spacey, Jeremy Irons, Demi Moore, Zachary Quinto, Stanley Tucci e Paul Bettany. Altro film che compare quest'anno sia al Sundance che a Berlino è il nuovo di Lee Tamahori, The Devil's Double). La sezione ospiterà anche il nuovo lungometraggio d'animazione in 3D Les Contes de la nuit di Michel Ocelot (Kirikù e la strega Karabà, Kirikù e gli animali selvaggi, Azur e Asmar).

Sono previste due proiezioni speciali: l'ultimo film di Werner Herzog Cave of Forgotten Dreams (foto, trailer) e Offside di Jafar Panahi, primo di diversi film che saranno proiettati al festival. La proiezione di Offside è fissata per l'undici febbraio, anniversario della rivoluzione iraniana. A supporto del regista, che non potrà essere presente in giuria, anche altre iniziative, come la tavola rotonda sul tema della censura con registi e artisti iraniani, tra cui Rafi Pitts, organizzata per il 17 febbraio da Berlinale Talent Campus e la World Cinema Fund.
