Il potere del cane è sempre più lanciato verso gli Oscar. Dopo la vittoria alla 75ª edizione dei Bafta, il film di Jane Campion trionfa anche ai Critics Choice Awards, i premi assegnati dall’associazione dei critici americani, conquistando anche la statuetta per la miglior regia, sceneggiatura non originale e fotografia (Ari Wegner).

Oltre al riconoscimento per il miglior film, le altre premiazioni non hanno disatteso i pronostici della vigilia. In linea con i Bafta e gli Screen Actor Awards, nella categoria degli attori hanno trionfato tutti i favoriti: Will Smith (King Richard) e Jessica Chastain (Gli occhi di Tammy Faye) ottengono il premio per i miglior attori protagonisti, con Troy Kotsur (Coda) e Ariana De Bose (West Side Story) che si sono assicurati le statuette per i migliori attori non protagonisti. Tra i vincitori della serata figura anche Belfast, che oltre ad aggiudicarsi il riconoscimento al “miglior cast” ottiene il premio alla miglior sceneggiatura originale (Branagh) conquistando anche la statuetta per il miglior interprete giovanile, assegnata all’undicenne Jude Hill. L’Italia, invece, esce dalla serata senza premi, con la vittoria di Ryusuke Hamaguchi su Paolo Sorrentino con Drive My Car nella categoria riservata al miglior film straniero.

Per quanto riguarda i riconoscimenti al mondo della serialità, è Succession ad emergere come il trionfatore assoluto, ottenendo le statuette per la “miglior serie drammatica” e per i migliori attori non protagonisti, assegnati rispettivamente a Kieran Culkin e Sarah Snook (entrambi alla loro prima vittoria). Dopo il successo agli Screen Actor, inoltre, Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game) conquista il premio al miglior attore protagonista, diventando il primo interprete coreano della storia dei Critics Choice Awards ad ottenere il riconoscimento nella categoria televisiva.
